- Drive the neighborhood around the home you are interested in. Do you see improvements taking place? New construction and remodeling? Active small businesses? Watch for signs of a neighborhood that is growing, thriving, or improving.
- You are also purchasing the community services. Check out the schools, how far away is the nearest fire and police protection (and these days make sure it is actually open), and where is the nearest grocery store?
- What are the taxes. Ask your Realtor if the information on the property fliers is current. Keep in mind that what you ultimately pay in taxes may not be what the current owner is paying.
- Do you rely on highways for work/family/business? How close are they?
- Roads, sidewalks and fire hydrants - are they in good condition? Can the areas infrastructure support your quality of life?
