Today's Economy is a Joke

This guy is walking with his friend, who happens to be a psychologist.

He says to this friend, "I'm a walking economy."

The friend asks, "How so?""

My hair line is in recession, my stomach is a victim of inflation, and both of these together are putting me into a deep depression!"

Oberlin Conservatory of Music: A new jazz opera by Harvey Pekar and Dan Plonsey

Leave Me Alone!A new jazz opera by Harvey Pekar and Dan Plonsey
January 31, 8 p.m.
Free Admission

What happens when you set comic book author Harvey Pekar's inimitable voice to music? Find out on Saturday, January 31, at 8 p.m., when Oberlin premieres Leave Me Alone!, a new opera with words by Pekar and music by saxophonist and composer Dan Plonsey.

A collaboration by two Cleveland natives with a cast and band drawn from Oberlin College and its Conservatory of Music, Leave Me Alone! is a humorous, groovy, and thoughtful meditation on the place of art in our society, produced in cooperation with
Real Time Opera. The opera takes the form of a conversation between Pekar and Plonsey, who discuss the difficulties of having a day job, the disconnect between contemporary audiences and contemporary art, their shared love of jazz, and much more.

Opera everywhere. No matter where you are, you can take part in this exciting premiere. Admission to the performance in Finney Chapel is free and open to all. Tickets are not required, but we recommend arriving early to find a seat. Doors will close promptly at 8 to allow our webcast to begin on time.

If you can't be there in person, we invite you to watch online, at
www.LeaveMeAloneOpera.com. The performance will be streamed live and can be viewed for free anywhere around the world.

Glasses to the Masses: Working to help over 1 BILLION People

This story has nothing to do with Ohio's Northcoast or Real Estate. My daughter sent it to me and it's just a fantastic effort to help people in an innovative way - I had to pass it along.

An Oxford University Professor had an amazing but simple idea. Create glasses with water filled lenses that could be adjusted without an optometrist and fancy equipment, and manufactured at an affordable price to help the very poor see better. Help them see well enough to in many cases change their lives!

What is the Buckeye Trail?

The Buckeye Trail is a hiking trail located entirely within the state of Ohio. It includes 40 of Ohio's 88 counties and includes 1,444 miles of hiking. The trail covers a wide variety of terrain as well as rural areas, small towns and larger communities.

The trail passes through the southwest corner of Ottawa County, Sandusky County, as well as Seneca, Huron, Southern Lorain, Medina and Cuyahoga Counties in North Central Ohio.

There are some campsites available along the trail, however at this point there are not enough to enable campers to camp along the trail every night. Use of the trail is free and open to the public. Just follow the blue blazes and enjoy the beauty of Ohio.

Northern Ohio Real Estate Market: Cleveland, Lorain, Elyria, Port Clinton, Vermilion ....

Prices are still on the decline, and the market is still very slow. Is there any good in this market?

If you are a buyer - there is no better time to buy property, a condo, or a house. Interest rates are unbelievably low, and will probably go a little lower. There is still a very large selection of homes on the market, and there are some wonderful financing opportunities available. If you are waiting for the "bottom" don't wait too long - you'll be looking back when the market tightens and interest rates begin to increase wondering "Why did I wait so long - I missed it!".

Just as the opportunity to purchase almost any home and know if you sold in 5 years you'd make some money fizzled - this "Buyer's Opportunity" will also pass.

Transfers, retirement, health problems, divorce, job loss - sometimes you need to sell your home. Be prepared to compete with bank owned homes/repos in this market. Banks aren't "giving homes away" anymore - you already missed some of that train ride. There are still some fantastic offers - but the road is starting to turn.

Sellers today need to be ready to offer a very good price and probably some incentives. If all of the other houses on your street have dropped in price 2, 3, 4 times - you need to consider a price drop. Your neighbors are your competition!

Give us a call today at: 440-315-6000 or 1-800-974-5184 if you are considering buying or selling a home.

More Tips When Shopping for a New Home ...

Looking for a new home?  Make sure you take some simple steps to make the right choice.
  • Drive the neighborhood around the home you are interested in.  Do you see improvements taking place?  New construction and remodeling?  Active small businesses?  Watch for signs of a neighborhood that is growing, thriving, or improving.
  • You are also purchasing the community services.  Check out the schools, how far away is the nearest fire and police protection (and these days make sure it is actually open), and where is the nearest grocery store?
  • What are the taxes.  Ask your Realtor if the information on the property fliers is current.  Keep in mind that what you ultimately pay in taxes may not be what the current owner is paying.
  • Do you rely on highways for work/family/business?  How close are they?
  • Roads, sidewalks and fire hydrants - are they in good condition?  Can the areas infrastructure support your quality of life?
Can you imagine your self IN THIS PLACE everyday.  Often people have a romantic idea of living in a home they discover without thinking through the day to day realities of living in THAT PLACE with everything it entails.  If your answer is "YES!" then call a Realtor today.  We are in a fantastic buyers market.  If you have been waiting then NOW IS THE TIME!!
