Avon Lake, Northcoast, Cleveland-Sandusky Train Service

Just sitting in Rio's coffee shop in Avon Lake, catching my morning Joe. The Plain Dealer has an article on the proposed train service to serve the lakefront communities from Cleveland to Sandusky. This project has been discussed for years. I think this is a fantastic idea! Not only is this a possible "green alternative" to the highways and roadways (of which I admit to being a regular user), but it gives color and flavor to our area.

From a regional perspective - this pulls together areas that can then market their attractions as a group. Someone staying in Sandusky can spend a week enjoying the Lake Erie Islands for a day, spend a couple of days at Cedar Point, enjoy a festival in Lorain's riverfront, then hop back on the train and visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or catch a sporting event in Cleveland. The train can be part of the vacation experience!

Having worked on the steam locomotives at Cedar Point many, many years ago (authentic coal burners) I admit to being somewhat biased. I love the train experience - but so do other people with money to spend in Northern Ohio!!
