Real Estate on Ohio's Lake Erie Islands: Middle Bass Island, Put-in-Bay & South Bass Island, Kelleys Island, and Johnson's Island.

It's hard to believe, but a large portion of residents in Ohio don't even know there are islands in Ohio, let alone islands with permanent residents.  Many of Ohio's residents have never been to the islands, or they think of them as secluded, undeveloped, and boring.  They are so wrong!

There are some lesser populated islands, and some islands that are completely or largely set aside for wildlife, however the larger islands all have residents throughout the year.  Each island has it's own unique personality.  Different cultures, businesses, boating and other recreational opportunities, and of course transportation available.

As of this writing the local Firelands MLS has the following for sale:

Homes on South Bass Island/Put-in-Bay:  30 Listings for sale.
Land on South Bass Island/Put-in-Bay:  11 Listings for sale.
(Put-in-Bay is a village on the northern end of South Bass Island)

Homes on Middle Bass Island:  34 Listings for sale.
Land on Middle Bass Island:  12 Listings for sale.

Homes on Kelleys Island:  21 Listings for sale.
Land on Kelleys Island:  31 Listings for sale.

North Bass Island (Isle Saint George) Land:  2 Listings for sale - Lakefront.
(very small population with most of the island state owned)

Homes on Johnson's Island:  5 Listings for sale.
Land on Johnson's Island:  9 Listings for sale.
(This island is actually located in Sandusky Bay w/ bridge access)

There are some amazing opportunities on all of the islands, but beware.  Some parcels will be difficult to build on since water and sewage can be an issue.  Also you need to be aware of the various ferry schedules.  If you want to view real estate on more than one island it can take some additional effort.

Because it is far more time consuming to tour island property most agents are going to ask for you to be pre-approved.  An unfortunate fact when selling vacation property is that some tourists think of it as part of their vacation and their Realtor as a free tour guide.  Please don't waste their time if you are not serious - but do take time to enjoy our islands, and asking advice is never an issue.
